Enlightenment

This website is designed to introduce you to enlightenment as taught, practiced and realized in the Zen, Shambhala, and Tibetan Buddhist traditions.
If you have come here because of my book Don’t Give Up Until You Do, you are already on the path to enlightenment. This website, through its blogs, videos, and social media, has been developed to further your progress on it.
Depending on where you live, you can also study with me, personally, at the Chögyam Trungpa Center,  or on Skype through our weekly meditation and discussion group.

What Enlightenment Is

Enlightenment is a very specific experience. There is no such thing as “your enlightenment” and “my enlightenment”—only one, unchanging insight, the same for all who experience it.
Enlightenment is the insight that reveals the true nature of mind. The true nature of mind has the following qualities, among others: it is vividly aware, compassionate, without an owner, and empty of anything that can be attributed to an object, such as size, shape, color, and place. When one fully experiences mind’s true nature, one is enlightened.

Focus on Enlightenment

Practicing meditation, studying the teachings, and following a teacher can bring many benefits besides enlightenment, such as becoming calmer, gentler, healthier, more open, and more attentive. These are certainly worthwhile, but they are not the purpose of this website, which is devoted exclusively to enlightenment. Such side-effects, pleasant and fruitional as they appear, are only part of the process leading to enlightenment, and will not be viewed as goals in themselves.

Approach to Enlightenment

There are authentic teachings, practices, and teachers in the world of enlightenment. Without them, one’s chances of seeing what must be seen are unlikely. Without the correct guidelines, one will simply use these precious teachings and practices as credentials that strengthen ego—the entity that must instead disappear for enlightenment to arise.
Through the materials on this website, you will receive authentic teachings and practices from an authentic teacher, in order to maximize your progress on the path.
If you have an intense desire to become enlightened and the work ethic to study and meditate, earnestly and diligently, you can do it.

Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche

What is presented on this website is from my experience, and not simply what I read or heard. In addition, none of it deviates from what I learned at the feet of my teacher, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, the Buddha of the New World. Everything presented here is in the interest of helping others, my way of repaying my teacher for the blessings and devotion he selflessly extended to all of his students.
